Nutmeg is also known as nutmeg seed or kernel.

It is available in whole kernal or seed or ground.

Store whole seed for up to two years in a cool, dry, dark place.

Nutmeg is good in baked goods, fruits, custards, eggnog, punches, sauces, pasta & vegetables like spinach.

Add freshly grated nutmeg at the end of cooking as heat diminishes its flavor.

Nutmeg is a spice that grows together with Mace on the same plant called Myristica Fragrans, an evergreen tree, native to the Banda Island. See Mace. The taste is rich and somewhat peppery.
Nutmeg
Once the mace is removed the nutmeg is dried on trays for 4 to 6 weeks until the nutmeg shrinks in its outer shell. The outer shell is then removed. This lengthy process explains why nutmeg is expensive.
