Celery Seed

Also known as lovage seeds, wild celery seed or smallage seed.

Available in whole seed or ground. Ground celery seed is called celery powder and with salt added (celery salt).

Celery Seeds are very tiny and brown in color and although they are slightly bitter their flavor is pleasant.

They can be used where fresh celery would not be able to be used, such as in bread doughs.

Celery seed is an herb that comes from the seed of the wild celery plant called Lovage or Smallage. Most celery seed comes from India. It is used to give a celery flavoring to soups and stews, potato salad.

Whole seeds can be sprinkled into a salad but mainly celery seeds are used in pickling recipes, soups, salads like coleslaw. It is also a nice addition to beef and pork dishes. Use sparingly.
